Jeans and washing are two words that come together in America. There is not such a thing as a good jean without a good washing and viceversa.
Americans were pioneers in jeans washing development. Companies in the Carolina´s were the biggest and most talented in the world to provide the best quality washing techniques for American taste type of jeans. This was happening specially during the 60´s, 70´s and 80´s.
Jeans certainly are an American product.

Behind the Brand: Raleigh
An American factory that makes a difference in the denim industry for generations:
United States is the biggest consumer of jeans in the world. The majority of the jeans production is imported from Foreign countries, although few companies make value added jeans within the country. There is a "universe" of brand that they sell their products online or retail shops. Consumers in USA do have many choices in the jeans business. Certainly the business is competitive but at the same time it offers these brands to make "customized" products for each consumer they target.
Top brands like Diesel do have a strong interest in the american market. Please check the following video about Diesel Jeans Event in Los Angles.
Today, Levi jeans are made overseas. Wrangler and Lee brands are owned by VF Corp., which also owns Chic Jeans, Riders, and Rustler brands. VF Corp. has manufacturing plants located in the United States , as well as other parts of the world. So, while it MAY be possible to find a pair of Wrangler or Lee jeans made in USA , it's a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack. Likewise, jeans made for LLBean, Landsend, and the GAP are imported.
Please watch the following video for 100% American made jeans brand named Texas Jeans USA.

Some 450 million pairs of jeans are sold in the United States each year -- 1.5 pairs for every man, woman, and child. The average woman has eight pairs in her closet. The United States is also a big producer of denim and cotton. Historically the jeans production was located in the Carolina´s, Texas and California. The factories started to move their operations to Mexico during the 1990´s after Nafta Free trade agreement.
USA consumes almost 30% of world denim jeans production. Being such a large market , the figures related to this market are generally of great interest. One such figure is that often surfaces in various news reports is that of ‘ Per Capita Consumption of Jeans in USA ‘ ie how many jeans does every resident of USA buys on an average in a year..
I have also seen that the figures that surface range from 1 Jeans per person p.a to 7 jeans per person p.a ..
The jeans niche itself has many different niches inside the USA itself. We can find low priced jeans in companies like Jc Penneys, Wall Mart. These jeans are usually ordered in very big quantities in developing countries. This is the reason why prices are attractive to consumers. Please note that today in JcPenney shops we can find not only economical jeans but also top brands selling inside JCPenney´s facilities. Companies like Levis, Mango, etc. JcPenney strategy is to keep a product can be sold out to a broad number of customers at the lowest possible price. Please see the following video. see video low price Jcpenney >

Wall Mart is another company in the USA that offers a broad range of jeans products at very economical prices as los as 9 USD for a pair of jeans. Wall Mart also offers jeans from other brands like Wrangler.

These companies usually offer basic or semibasic products at competitive prices for mass consumption. They usually do not have highly specialized designing teams like jeans brands. Similar situation to Primark in Europe. However, Americans are becoming more aware over time about fashion products and appreciate value added jeans. Many other jeans companies are present in the USA market that sell their jeans in their own retail shops or under franchising conditions. Jeans trends in the United States does not necessarily follow the same ones like in Europe or Japana. In fact, they are different in many cases,. Many Americans do prefer a basic jean that can be used and thrown away, others do appreciate some more fashion, and many prefer a traditional 501 Levis jean. The market is so big that the choices are broad.
Another company named Target (trading in NYSE) is a key player in the selling of jeans in the United States. Targets offer its own brand as well other brands already in the market. Levi´s company has developed in 2011 one style brand named Denizen for Target shops.

Also we must consider that the patterns and styles used in the US can be siginificantly different to those used in Europe. Similar issue occurs with Germany. Many companies coming from abroad must adjust their fittings and patterns for the US market as standard products marketed in Europe cannot sell in the States.

When we talked about Jeans in the United States, we must talk about famous Levi´s brand.
Levi´s has been and still is a succesful brand in the United States and around the world. It is certain than most of the Levi´s production is done overseas due to high labor costs in the States, but certainly the company strives to fullfill their supplier conduct code.
Please check the following web page where a recognitiong and complicance for product, people and planet are key factors of Levis production.

Levi Strauss & Co. is today a well-established global business and it operates in 110 countries. The company is well positioned in the market through not exempt from tough competition. A combination of traditional jeans development and new trend development for future collections, I believe is the key for this company to further grown. The potential for the company is defintely in countries like India, China, Russia and Brazil. In the US itself, the company cannot fall asleep either as it must be aware of other agressive firms coming into the market, from top value jeans companies to medium priced brands. I have always thought that a new Levi´s brand focused on speed, Levi´s Quick Fashion collections, could be another market niche that the company can target in near future. That would be small collections, highly fashioned, but very quick sales turnover in the shops. I have not seen that yet, but I think that would be a strategic good move for the company. Certainly more work for the company´s designers and manufacturing units.
The company manufactures its products in many countries depending on the customer base location. Levi´s products for USA market used to be produced in USA, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, Dominican, Colombia.
For European market, production facilities in Morroco, Spain, Poland, Tunisia. These days, Spain production is gone also. South Africa had until recently a manufacturing unit since recently.
Asian market has a production facilities in Bangladesh, India, China, Philipines, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Other important local players in the jeans industry are Calvin Klein, Abercrombie, Lee, Wrangler, American Eagle, Tommy Hillfiger and Gap.

Every one of this brand has a main market which they follow in their collections. For example. Abercrombie´s jeans collections are very elaborated in terms of washing and dry process. A product can tipically range in between 90 to 110 USD. The products are really medium-high fashion for a young market. We

Most of the products are either with special colored printed fabrics or with dry process work on the jeans surface. Most of the jeans seem to have a used effect blasting or laser process together with whiskers and grinding. Colored denim can be either garment dyed or fabric dyed. We will discuss later on this blog the differences between both processes on denim. Please check the following web side for further visualization of the effects:
There are technical differences for some of following brands: Calvin Klein, Abercrombie, Lee, Wrangler, American Eagle, Tommy Hillfiger and Gap.
Calvin Klein offers jeans for young people on their 20´s. The garments are not extremely agressive when it come to finishing and the look seems relatively conservative. The styling seems based on slim fit fittings for girls while for men´s is a loose garment with little used effects and focusing more on premium fabrics.
Lee and Wrangler see to focus both on similar styling. Not so agressive finishing for dry processes and focus on nice body fitting.
Lee

Abercrombie is probably the company that differentiates itself more than the rest of the brands mentioned above. Its washes and dry processes are quite more developed on their jeans and still keeping a classy look due to the fabrics chosen and patterns. Please see below few examples:
Abercrombie also focuses its products lines on color denim, colored jeans and printed denims. These are products that have little washing on them but the look is based on the original fabric. Usually these products tend be in the price range of 80 to 90 USD. Please see below pics:
Gap company was founded in 1969 and it is one of the most important companies in the world for apparel products, including jeans. Gap has more than 3000 shops and employs over 150,000 people. Gap has 3 brands for garments: Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy
Gap connects with the customer so the company can expand. Gap does have its own brands, wide product range. The marketing efforts focus on the display of celebrities wearing its garments and demographic diversity.
Banana Republic is a more luxurious brand within Gap. The jeans offered in their shops do have a very classy look of natural used effects and premium fabrics. The company has over 600 stores.
The company operates more than 500 Banana Republic stores in the United States (including Puerto Rico) and 26 stores in Canada. The Gap, Inc. is expanding its international presence with franchise agreements for Gap and Banana Republic in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
Banana Republic opened its first store outside North America in 2005 in Ginza, Tokyo's most prestigious upscale shopping district. Banana Republic's presence in South Korea debuted on August 24, 2007 with a flagship store in the trendy Apkujeong district of Seoul. In 2007, the first Banana Republic stores opened at The Avenues shopping mall in Kuwait City, Kuwait; Senayan City in Jakarta, Indonesia; and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Banana Republic opened its first store in Turkey on March 15, 2008 in the Kanyon Shopping Mall in Istanbul.[2] By May 2008, İstinye Park Shopping Mall and Nişantaşı stores were also opened in Istanbul. More stores are planned to be opened in Ankara and İzmir by the end of 2008 to bring the total number of stores in Turkey to six.[3]
Banana Republic was first introduced in Saudi Arabia in late 2008, with a first opening in Mall of Arabia in Jeddah and a second opening in Riyadh Gallery Mall in Riyadh in March 2009.
On March 20, 2008, Banana Republic opened its 17,000-square-foot (1,600 m2) flagship store on Regent Street in London, England.[4] On May 9, 2008, Banana Republic opened its flagship store on Greenbelt 5 in Makati City, Philippines
Banana republic os a company dedicated to fashion production with remarkable differences, exclusivity. Products are not so highly priced and they not necessarily oriented to a higher income consumer market. On the other hand, the jeans are for urban consumers and economically independent so they can afford spending some money on accesories. The company focuses on quality, exclusivity and collections not accesible and available for everybody.
BANANA REPUBLIC PICS

Old Navy is the other Gap´s brand. The company has over 1000 stores. The company is relatively new in the business as first shop was opened in 1994.The company focuses on low price garments for women, men, kids and babies. Women jeans can range in price from 25 to 40 USD.
Flagship stores also have "collection" business clothes for women, plus size and maternity sections. As of summer 2007 however, plus-size clothing is only available online and has been pulled from all stores. Previously, Old Navy attempted to launch a bath and body line, called ONbody (Obsessively Natural).
