Bangladesh is a small highly populated country of around 160 million people. Yearly per capity income is around 700 USD per year. More than 3/4 of Bangladesh export business comes from garment business.
It is the 3rd or 4th largest garment exporter in the world. The country has benefited from duty free benefits for exporting to EU or USA in last years and the industry has boomed tremendously since 1980´s.
The two main production areas for jeans products are located in Dhaka and Chittagong.
Bangladesh is specialized in making basic jeans products. If you check the shops in may retail brands you will realize that many of the jeans are made in this country. Bangladesh offers plenty of labor and cheap wages. Constraints during the past have been related to political unstability, civil unrest and shortages of raw materials. In spite of that, Bangladesh is today a top manufacturing hub for international brands. The country does not produce cotton but it imports it. Some denim fabric is produced locally and also imported, from China, Pakistan, and India mainly.
Some of the important companies in the country are Beximco, Opex, Pacific Jeans, Hameen Group, etc.

Please take a look at the following video of Hameen Group.
Bangladesh jeans business will keep growing if the country can keep political stability and civil unrest under control. The economy is well focused on garment business and companies have done huge investments on capital equipment from Europe, America and China. Bangladesh has also the challenge to further educate its population for developing more value added products. More textile schools are required with Western teaching techniques. Long term must be more value added garments by using the next technologies and with properly trained management and workforce. We must keep in mind that sooner or later Bangladesh will have to compete with cheaper labor countries in Africa. When this will happen nobody knows for sure, but certainloy we have seen some companies establishing small pilot plants in some african countries. Is it is still a mistery if this can expand the same way it did in Asia for last 30 years.
Many international brands have established offices and they have send their expatriate workforce to inspect productions and develop new products. Bangladesh will keep exporting jeans in future as still is one of the most competitive places to produce this type of garment.
